Somewhere across the ocean, somewhere across the sea, I know the sun is shining
and that's good enough for me...
and that's good enough for me...
Welcome to a World of Rivers...
The aim of River Gurus is to create an organization of professional, commercial river guides and adventure program operators, whose safety standards in river running and operational procedures not only meet the highest international standards, but are maintained and regulated.
By having international standards recognized, river guides are hired by the best adventure travel companies worldwide and are able to offer the highest quality and most comprehensive itineraries in the industry today.
Our project consists of five areas.
Stage one: Industry communication
Communication is the key to controlling both, rafting operators and guides in the industry. By means of a great web page and emails and newsletters we are able to advise both operators and guides of the events and courses that we have on around the world.
Stage two: Company evaluations
By auditing each of the individual rafting operators, we are able to implement any rules and regulations that each country requires, giving us high operational standards for the operators to follow. Companies should be audited once every three years by an instructor.
Note: There is no point just training raft guides, we need the operators to follow the standards as well.
Stage three: Specialized training courses
By the means of running training courses in the different areas of guiding, we are able to create an industry of professional river guides that meet high international standards in safety, guiding, and river running.
Note: We need to keep things simple and complete.
Stage four: River cleaning days
Unfortunately, the majority of rivers on our planet have been contaminated with rubbish and chemicals. This is simply put down to the lack of education in the importance of keeping rivers clean and flowing freely. We feel that in each community where commercial rafting takes place, the companies should come together to run a river cleaning day in which the companies can invite the local community to participate in the event. Each raft should be assigned a different section of river to clean, and while cleaning the guides are able to educate the locals the importance of having a clean river.
Note: Whenever we run courses, we should take an extra day to run a river cleaning day. River Cleaning days does not always mean that we pick up rubbish, we can use these days to extract strainers and other dangerous obstacles in the river to make our trips safer.
Stage five: River exploration
Although the sport of rafting and kayaking is constantly growing, there are still so many rivers that have not been explored. We feel that if we had a platform where guides and kayakers can update information about new river trips around the world, it would help our industry grow.
